[youtube] Australian interview with Wong Kar-wai

This interview might be helpful for your week2.k.w post. They talked a lot about As Tears Go By.

This interview covers a lot of information about WKW's films starting from his very first one, his earlier career before becoming a director, and also some artistic choices he's made in his career.

  1. I'm curious who WKW's influences are. He seems to have similar styles with a lot of western filmmakers like Scorsese. The story of As Tears Go By is very similar to Scorsese's mean streets. I'm anxious to see more of his work.

  2. For WKW's links with Scorsese, you can refer to the first 2 to 3 pages of Peter Brunette's "Tears, Time, and Love: The Films of Wong Kar-wai".
WKW's films combines together some of the most typical traits of genra films and at the same time never hesitates to create his very own signiture, which sometimes share some similarities with many Asian filmmakers, as auteur filmmakers, is really what brings him a much broader group of viewers than most other asian filmmakers or art films filmmakers in general.

  3. Definitely found this interview interesting. Also found it interesting how young W.K.W looks, despite how old he obviously must be.
